Men’s Belts and How to Choose One


Wearing a belt well is one of those base tests of fashion.  If you know how to choose and right belt and do it rightly then you have established yourself as someone who knows his clothes.  Someone who wears a mismatch will show that the still needs some learning about dressing well.

It you really think about it the basics of choosing the right belt is not difficult because it only takes common sense and not the science behind it, and it also considers your personal tastes.

Length is one of the things to consider when choosing a belt.  Men who dress well choose a belt with a few inches of leather to the left of the buckle when it is fastened.  A good rule of thumb or using your common sense, the length should be enough to tuck under the first belt loop if it has one.  If you are going to err, better to do so on the side of wearing one with a shorter slack than wearing one with a very long tail of leather wrapped around your hip.  It is not the same with casual belts which is quite flexible when it comes to length.  But also not to the extent of dangling an overly long tail end that will make it look awkward.

If you notice those brass cap or some other metal on the end of a casual belt, this has a remedial bearing and a good sense to ease the feeding of that end to the buckled mechanism.  These are traditionally worn with no spare belt beyond the buckle once fastened.  This type of belt is made of a certain fabric which can easily be trimmed to fit your size, and it can be done simply by removing the buckle and cutting.
